ShireStone: From First Foundations to a City Worth Exploring

· SoulQuest Development Team

From a sparse first square to detailed streets and living districts: a look at ShireStone’s progress and the plans for a larger, explorable capital.

ShireStone Town Square on the Dev realm, with the Village Hall, circular stone paving and residents. Captured 16 October 2026.

ShireStone began as a few buildings, a strip of paving and a lot of empty space. It gave us somewhere to arrive from the forest and a foundation to build on, but there was little reason to linger.

That is changing. The city is gaining depth, atmosphere and places with their own character. This development bulletin looks back at those first foundations, shows how far ShireStone has come, and shares the direction for its next expansion.

A city in outline

The early Town Square was deliberately simple. Separate buildings sat against a flat background, with a narrow path joining them. You could recognise the idea of a civic centre, but the spaces between its landmarks had barely begun to tell a story.

Getting those foundations in place mattered. Before filling the city with detail, we needed its districts, destinations and connections to work. Looking back at that sparse square makes the change in direction especially clear.

Places with a reason to stay

Today's ShireStone has a much stronger sense of place. Town Square brings stone paving, timber frontages, banners and warm lanterns together around a recognisable civic centre. Buildings frame the space instead of sitting apart on an empty canvas.

Across the city, the districts are developing different moods: trade frontages and stalls in the Market, the waterfront on South Side, quieter fountain courts on North Side, and enclosed, worn lanes through Old City and Shady corner. The Outskirts make the transition between the city and the Dark Forest feel like an actual threshold.

There is more life between those landmarks, too. Residents pass through the streets, pause near one another and react to nearby encounters. Small creatures add movement close to the ground. Day and night change the atmosphere, while furnished spaces such as Wizardwood Tavern give the city somewhere to draw you indoors.

These details help ShireStone become somewhere you can recognise, return to and spend time in between adventures.

The next step: a grand capital

The next expansion is about giving those familiar places more city around them. The current Town Square should become the heart of a larger district, with adjoining courts, arcades and a southern promenade revealed as you walk. The camera should follow your journey through the district, keeping your character readable as new spaces come into view.

That ambition extends across all nine districts. Each needs its own streets, corners and destinations to discover, while preserving the places already taking shape.

For the Market, we want a larger trading district with distinct clusters of staffed stalls, a forge forecourt, delivery activity and connecting alleys. Several shops should have furnished interiors you can enter, walk around and leave through their own doors. Opening a shop door will not, by itself, mean every future trading system is ready.

Residential streets should feel like neighbourhoods. The plan calls for five distinct, numbered neighbourhoods with gardens, identifiable house doors and homes that players can visit through the existing invitation and access rules. A home should belong somewhere in the city, with a familiar doorstep to return to.

We also want more control over how you explore: selected zoom levels, in-game scene settings and smoother movement. Spaces for future seasonal decorations are part of the authoring plan, so the city can eventually dress for special occasions without losing its everyday character.

Still taking shape

The larger capital, expanded Market and five neighbourhoods are the direction ahead. They are not a completed release announcement, and the screenshots here show development work rather than the finished expansion. Layouts, artwork and details may change as we build and review them.

ShireStone has come a long way from its first flat foundations. The aim now is to make the next turn worth taking: a street that leads somewhere, a doorway that invites a visit, and a city that feels worth exploring. Come back from the forest, stay a while, and see what is growing around the square.
