The Road to Closed Alpha
After more than a decade away, SoulQuest is returning. From the streets of ShireStone to the depths of the Dark Forest, a familiar world is awakening once more. Here's what's been happening, and what comes next.

⚔️ The Road to Closed Alpha
The realm is stirring once again.
It's been a long time since SoulQuest last welcomed adventurers through its gates.
Originally brought to life back in 2012, SoulQuest was a browser-based RPG built around exploration, adventure, character progression and the simple enjoyment of having a world to return to.
But as the years passed, the realm eventually fell quiet.
Now, after more than a decade, SoulQuest is coming back.
And this time, there's an opportunity to make it something rather special.
A Familiar World, Reimagined
Bringing SoulQuest back isn't simply about dusting off the old game and switching everything back on.
The aim is to preserve what made traditional browser RPGs enjoyable while creating something that feels fresh, welcoming and worth returning to.
At its heart, SoulQuest remains a browser-based role-playing game.
Create your character, equip your gear, explore dangerous places, encounter creatures, complete quests and gradually carve out your own place in the world.
There's no need for lightning-fast reflexes or endless hours of uninterrupted play. Whether you have ten minutes or an entire evening, there should always be something worthwhile to do.
But this time, the world itself is getting considerably more attention.
The World Is Awakening
A great deal of work has already gone into rebuilding the foundations of SoulQuest.
ShireStone Keep is once again becoming the heart of the realm.
Its familiar streets, markets and districts are being brought to life with a new visual style, interactive locations and inhabitants. Rather than navigating an endless collection of menus, the goal is to make ShireStone feel like somewhere your character actually lives and visits.
Beyond its gates lies the Dark Forest.
A wilderness filled with winding paths, hidden locations, caves and encounters. Exploration is becoming a much more visual experience, with your character travelling through the world, discovering new places and interacting with their surroundings.
Character creation has also received considerable attention.
Six playable races form the current foundation, with new character artwork, appearance customisation and equipment that can be seen on your adventurer.
And, of course, there's plenty more taking shape.
A dedicated Quest Book, daily adventures, gathering activities such as mining and herbalism, and improvements to combat, equipment and character progression are all part of the ongoing work.
The intention isn't simply to give players more things to click. It's to give them more reasons to explore.
More Than Just an Adventure
One of the most exciting parts of SoulQuest's revival is the opportunity to make the realm feel genuinely inhabited.
Personal homes are taking shape, giving adventurers somewhere to call their own, arrange furnishings and eventually welcome visitors.
Guilds and shared halls will provide places for players to gather, socialise and build their own communities.
Local conversations, other adventurers appearing around the world and more life throughout ShireStone are also part of that vision.
The idea is simple: SoulQuest should feel like a living world, even when you're not out fighting monsters.
Some of these features are already taking shape in the private development version, while others still need refinement before they're ready for players.
There's plenty of work ahead, but the foundations are becoming much more substantial.
🛡️ The Road to Closed Alpha
Which brings us to the next big milestone.
SoulQuest is now working towards its first closed alpha.
This won't be a grand public launch, and it certainly won't be a finished game.
The plan is to begin with a small group of invited players who can explore the world, create characters, try the available activities and, most importantly, help identify what works and what doesn't.
There will undoubtedly be rough edges.
Some areas will be unfinished. Features may change, balancing will need attention, and progress resets may be necessary as development continues.
That's all part of building something worthwhile.
Before those first invitations go out, the focus is on making sure the core experience feels right.
Creating a character, venturing into the world, finding adventure, returning home and picking up where you left off should all feel natural and rewarding.
There isn't a confirmed date for closed alpha just yet.
I'd rather spend a little longer getting the foundations right than open the gates before the world is ready.
When the time comes, access will be invitation-only, with more information shared here in the Realm Bulletin.
The Adventure Is Just Beginning
This is the first proper news article of SoulQuest's revival, and hopefully the first of many.
As development continues, the Realm Bulletin will become the place to follow progress, discover upcoming features and hear about important milestones.
There's still a long road ahead, and plenty of adventures waiting to be written.
To anyone who remembers SoulQuest from all those years ago: welcome back.
And to those discovering it for the very first time: welcome to the realm.
The gates aren't quite open yet.
But beyond the walls of ShireStone, something is stirring.
